

Thrissur Museum & Zoo- twin attractions
The Thrissur Museum and Zoo provides a rare and interesting blend of History and wildlife watching. A place where one may observe exotic wildlife species from close quarters and follow it up with visits to the interesting Art and History museums. A highly frequented tourist attraction, the museum and zoo is located at Chembakavu town right at the center of Thrissur district. Apart from its easy accessibility, the site acts as ideal halting destinations on way to nearby attractions including Vadakkunathan temple and an Inner Ring called ‘Thrissur round’ that is regarded as one of the largest in India.
The project is spread over an area of 5 acres and the Zoo started functioning in 1885. Python, Cobra, Mythun Bull, Hipoppatamus, Crocodiles, owls and other exotic birds are popular denizens of the park. Apart from the descent number of wildlife species, its snake park is an added attraction. However, the chief attraction is the Museum that displays a rare and exclusive collection of historical artifacts, swords, jewelries etc.
An elephant’s skeleton greets one at the gate of museum whereas a memorial dedicated to 200 soldiers who went to World War I exist right in front of the gate. There is no entrance fee at the museum which is a heaven for history lovers. One may spend hours observing and marveling at the rich collections.
