

Napier Museum & Art Gallery
Located at the heart of the city, the Napier Museum & Art Gallery is a paradise for art lovers. The complex was built in 19th century with the aim of showcasing the masterpieces of paintings and artistic collections from world renowned artists and is now one of Thiruvananthapuram’s well known destinations.
Exhibiting beautiful design and decorative work, this indo-Saracenic structure exhibits a rare synthesis of Indian, Chinese, Mughal, Italian and Kerala architecture style combination. The natural air conditioning at Napier is another attraction. The museum was named after the former Governor General of Madras- John Napier.
The renowned art gallery of Sree Chaitanya inside the complex primarily showcases Raja Ravi Varma’s paintings apart from Tanjore, Mughal and Rajput school of paintings’ rare collection. The gallery also acknowledges arts & painting skills of oriental countries apparent in its collection from Japan, Tibet, Bali and China. Its rich collection includes bronze idols, ivory carvings, temple chariot, ancient ornaments and historical artifacts.
Overall, the complex offers a visual delight to the visitors and is indeed a paradise for art lovers. The Zoological Park located nearby acts as a perfect excursion destination.
