Malampuzha
Palakkad’s favorite Picnic Spot
Malampuzha Dam & Garden is one of Palakkad districts most popular tourist attraction, a highly frequented hangout zone and the biggest irrigation project in Kerala. Located at a distance of 10 km from Palakkad town in North Kerala, this little township at the foothills of Western Ghats is set against panoramic backdrop of snow clad mountains and lush green forestation.
The town was so named after the River Malampuzha which is a tributary of Kerala’s longest river-The Bharathappuzha. The project was started in 1949 and commissioned in 1955 with a total capacity of 115 meters. It also serves as a hydro electric project apart from boasting of a large network of canals.
However, the popularity of Malampuzha is due to its plethora of attractions and enjoyment opportunities that one finds here- be it the countless flower beds, rose gardens or glittering fountains and pools that surrounds the dam.
