Kottayi

Kottayi is a panoramic little village famous for its rich musical heritage and legacy. Located at a distance of 15 km from Palakkad via Poodur, Kottayi was once the native place of legendary musician Chembai Vaidyanatha Bhagavathar, the doyen of Carnatic music.

The town plays host to the annual Chembai Parthasarathy Ekadasi Music festival held during the months of February to March in memory of Chembai Vaidyanatha Bagavathar. Now regarded as the heaven for traditional music lovers, the festival attracts a large number of distinguished personalities every year including K. J. Yesudas- Kerala’s greatest singer and one of the disciples of Chembai.
