Snake Park at Parassinikkadavu
Parassinikkadavu Snake Park is a well known destination of Kannur regions, housing over 150 species of snakes and other small animals. Located at a distance of 16 km from Kannur, it is easily accessible via national highway (NH) 17 just 2 km away.
The poisonous and non poisonous species of snakes here include King Cobra, Pythons, the Spectacled Cobra, Krait, Russell's viper and other pit vipers. The park was established with the primary aim of preserving and conserving the many species of snakes which are in danger of being extinct, and the secondary aim of quelling the myths and superstitions regarding the snakes.
A Live show is organized here which involves trained personnel playing with a variety of snakes including cobras and vipers. Parassinikkadavu’s Snake Park was originally set up by the Visha Chikitsa Kendra and is now a highly frequented attraction visited by both domestic and foreign tourists who come to witness this one of a kind place.
The ‘Visha chikitsa Kendra’ provides effective treatment for snake bites and a proposal to set up a laboratory to extract venom from snakes is also underway. The famous Muthappan temple is also located at Parassinikkadavu.
