

Kollam
Kollam is one of Kerala’s historical districts known the world over for its spice trade, rich history, pristine backwaters and sea port. Previously known as Quilon, the district is located at a distance of 70 km from capital city Trivandrum. An old sea port town, several Historical monuments and traditional temples dots its landscape. Now emerged as a well known destination for cashew trading industry, Kollam is also a renowned center of Spice trade. It had trade relations with several countries in the past which continues to till date. Possessing one of the most important sea ports in Malabar region, Kollam had ancient relations with China and several other countries.
The backwaters of Kollam is what sets it apart- the slow cruise along the prestine 900 sq km of backwaters of Ashtamudi Lake is an experience in itself as you relax in the traditional houseboats relishing the pleasant view. Almost 30% of Kollam is covered by Ashtamudi Lake and the district is regarded as a gateway to famous backwaters of Kerala.
