Pathiramanal

Pathrimanal Island may be referred to as an oasis in the backwaters of Kerala. Surrounded by the picturesque Vembanad Lake and Kayakulam Lake, the island and the adjoining Pathiramanal beach are one of Allapuzha districts most beautiful examples of scenic natural beauty.

Lying between Kumarakom and Thanemukkom, this island is only accessible by boats. A Bird lovers paradise, it attracts a large number of migratory birds from all part of the state. The accommodation at Pathrimanal is another highlight, as it’s a pleasure to stay in nature friendly wooden architecture providing breathtaking views of sparkling waters. Sprawling over 10 acres, its name means the ‘sands of night’ and there is a very interesting legend associated with its creation. As the story goes, the land was miraculously raised from under the waters after a Brahmin dived into the lake to perform his evening prayers.

For the tourist, Pathiramanal has now developed as a favorite halting spot during the backwater cruise through the area.
