Alappuzha -The Venice of the east

Alappuzha is one of Kerala's most fascinating attraction, a famed backwater destination and a land where varied features not only co-exist but complement each other to present a beautiful synthesis of nature. The picturesque location is also called the 'Venice of the east' due to its immense natural beauty and similar appearance to the Italian city Venice.

The beauty of alappuzha is enhanced by its prime location- the Arabian sea on one side and Kerala's famous backwaters on the other.Visitors are treated with a twin attraction of Sun kissed beaches and picturesque Lakes. Another highlight of Alappuzha is the memorable stay in houseboats which inspite of their somewhat modest appearance, are well equipped with all modern & basic facilities to ensure a memorable stay.

Also known as Alleppey, Alappuzha is known to be an important center of commerce and trade in the past and believed to be actively engaged in trade from Greece and Rome. Coir and carpet are still the essence of Alappuzha's thriving industry. This western coastline district of India has now become an important part of most tour itineraries in Kerala.

Another star attraction of Alappuzha is the Boat races held upon the enchanting backwaters every year during the Onam festival.Attracting spectators from around the globe to witness this one of a kind spectacle, these snake boat races are synomymous with excitement with fun & frolic earning lots of cheering from the spectators.

Alappuzha is also known as the land of Kerala's famous ruler Maharaja Marthandavarma. Apart from the backwaters, the district now possesses several Ayurvedic centers to provide a holistic treatment for mind, body & soul. Kerala's main attraction is its unspoilt natural beauty, and it would not be an exaggeration to say that of all the places that the state has to offer, Alappuzha is the most beautiful of them all.
